A word play on MSG, Ms. Gee is a Hong Kong inspired cocktail bar that dabbles in Asian street culture, tea-infused cocktails, and Asian inspired cuisine. The goal is to transport you to the streets of the famous party district in Hong Kong known as Lan Kwai Fong. Interiors for the bar are on point, with extra comfy velvet chairs, vintage art, vintage furniture, and an ambiance which makes you feel that extra bit posh. It’s a good place to start off your night in Poblacion if you want to sit down and talk with your friends before heading off to places nearby where you can barely even hear yourself. Although as the night gets deeper, the lights are dimmed and only the red neon lights illuminate the space. And this is usually when the Ms. Gee starts getting packed.
This cocktail, the Lady in Red, is their own take on a classic whiskey sour. Putting a chinese twist to it, they’ve added kiamoy. For the unfamiliar, kiamoy is a salty dried plum that’s a popular Chinese treat, particularly in the Philippines. It’s this flavor that takes the lead in this beverage, experienced in the form of a kiamoy infused bourbon, egg white, and lemon, and rimmed with powdered kiamoy garnish. It’s a sweet treat that has such a memorable taste. If we have one concern, we found that it wasn’t as spirit forward as we prefer a whiskey sour to be. But it’s an easy drink, so you’d be eager to get another round.
