Last week, Glenfiddich invited the Daily Drink team to a whisky tasting event where they showcased their 12, 15, and 18 year old Glenfiddich bottles of scotch, guided by Brand Ambassador Brett Bayly. Hosted at Sage, a hotel Bar inside Makati Shangri-La, it was definitely an informative comparative tasting, where we got a better understanding of how you can appreciate the different stages of whiskies in terms of age and how the three bottles related to one another in terms of aroma, flavor, and body.
The 12 year old has a creamy mouthfeel with notes of green apples and a hint of caramel and vanilla that resembles butterscotch and has a mellow finish. The 15 year old has a more smooth mouthfeel with notes of honey and raisins. There’s also a slight spice flavor that resembles ginger. It’s the usual crowd favorite among the three because of its balanced characteristics. The 18 yo has the most body, with notes of baked apples and caramel which are very apparent and finishes with a hint of cinnamon. Little known fact: the 12 and the 18 are actually the same scotch, just 6 years apart.
