Consistency is often identified as having the same taste all the time, which is not the case for Urban Coffee Roaster in Hong Kong. On the contrary, they’ve made a very rock n’ roll choice with a primary coffee that features a wide variety of flavors each time you pull a shot. This natural processed, single-origin Ethiopian heirloom is also quite an expensive roast to serve on a regular basis, but they don’t charge extra for doing this. Not a lot of people are willing to do what they’re doing. Urban Coffee leans towards very sweet and fruity coffees, ones that have purple notes—meaning blueberry, grape, and plum. Their choice of coffee brings out juicy flavors that complement the overall quality. Even though their flavor notes rarely taste the same, they function under the belief that the quality, care, and attention given to every cup should always be the same.
What do you think of this packaging idea? It’s something we picked up in their shop. On the front is the name of the coffee, on the side is the roast date, and on the back are the specific details about the coffee. They always make sure to include the crop year, elevation, the flavor notes to expect, and the processing method. The best thing about this unique packaging is that it’s reusable. There’s a side of the packaging that has a grid allotted to count the refills you purchase in their shop – similar to a loyalty card – once you get to 12 refills they give you a coffee gift which changes from time to time. We really like this idea because it’s sustainable and it’s intended to create an ongoing relationship between the roaster and the consumer.
