It was a pleasant surprise to come across this new family-run café along Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City. Sandwiched between steelwork and construction supply stores, its location is but one of several things that make @throughabitcafe an unusual but very welcome discovery.
For one, they are a plant-based coffee bar inside a vegan-friendly eco-store, making them a one-stop shop for vegan supplies, essential goods and select local products. Their shelves are decked with various items that promote waste-free, sustainable living.
One of the things they are pushing for is their plant-based café menu in which they forego all dairy and offer only nut and grain milks. Now, I’m not vegan and I usually like my lattes with full cream cow’s milk, but Through Habit Cafe’s grain milk did add an interesting layer of sweetness to our drink that was not bad at all. It surely was light and friendly to the tummy too.
We also enjoyed their signature drink called Ventura’s Highway, which is an iced Americano with a foamy citrus twist — a perfect midday refreshment!
Another big factor that makes Through Habit Café an advocate for well-being is their pro-active partnership with Grain Foundation for PWD Inc, an NGO that is dedicated to supporting marginalized persons with disability, by employing their members as baristas and creating a healthy and non-discriminatory working environment for them. A basic sign language board is conveniently placed on the bar to help customers communicate properly with the staff.
Through Habit Café is a shop that, across the board, aims for a healthier community. As implied by their name, their many offerings are intentionally selected to help customers start and sustain better, healthier habits.
