Italians are obsessed with their espresso — they invented it, after all— and the summer heat definitely won’t stop them from getting their coffee.
The Shakerato is the preferred summer caffeine fix of most Italians who like their coffee strong and sweet. As the name suggests, the Shakerato is basically espresso that has been shaken with ice and a little bit of sugar or simple syrup. A stroke of genius, shaking the espresso creates the drink’s signature luscious foam. We got our foamy drink and our chocolate-pistachio cannoli from Eataly while we were strolling around the city of Florence, Italy. They’re situated a couple of minutes away from the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Eataly’s shaken espresso is the perfect summer treat if you’re into something not as decadent as an affogato or maybe you’ve just had one too many gelatos and but still want to beat that Tuscan sun.
